Samsung brings water resistance to Galaxy A series

We don’t often find water-resistance in mid-range smartphones, with the Hisense KO and Sony Xperia Aqua range being two that come to mind. Fortunately, Samsung looks to join the party with the 2017 Galaxy A series.

The Korean firm revealed three updated entries in the series this week, in the form of the 5.7-inch A7, 5.2-inch A5 and 4.7-inch A3.

All devices feature IP68 dust- and water-resistance, USB Type C ports, fast-charging, fingerprint scanners and Samsung Pay support.

The A7 and A5 share a few features too, such as a full HD AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, Exynos 7880 octacore chip (eight A53 cores) and 16MP main and front facing cameras (f/1.9 each).

The two devices differ in the battery department though, with the A7 featuring a large 3600mAh battery and the A5 toting a 3000mAh pack.

As for the A3, it’s got a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED display, octacore Exynos 7870 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Rounding out the specs are a 13MP f/1.9 main camera, 8MP selfie shooter and 2350mAh battery.

“The Galaxy A will be available in Russia in early-January and will be expanded to global markets,” the company wrote in its press release.

We’ve contacted Samsung’s local representatives for release details and will update the article when we’ve received a response.
