Watch: Ryzen 5 1600 vs Core i7 7800X in 30 game battle

AMD’s Ryzen range of processors might be the computing and general tech story of the year. Coming after years of a virtual monopoly by Intel, AMD’s new chips manage to pack great performance in a cost-effective package.
Now, YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed as decided to conduct a 30 game comparison of the Ryzen 5 1600 against the Intel Core i7 7800X. It seems like a somewhat unfair comparison at first glance, because surely it should be Ryzen 7 vs Core i7, right? But AMD’s Ryzen 5 1600 sports six cores and 12 threads, much like the 7800X.
The kicker is in the price though, with this particular AMD chip retailing for just over US$200, while Intel’s chip costs just over US$400. Can you expect comparable performance despite the pricing gulf?
Hardware Unboxed paired the chips with a GeForce 1080 Ti graphics card, running a selection of games at 1080p. The games included Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, GTA V, The Witcher 3, Overwatch, Doom, Dirt 4 and Quantum Break. Check out the results in the video below.
