Sharp, the original thin bezel player, has another impressive phone

Sharp,Sharp Aquos S2

Sharp wowed the tech sector a few years ago when it showed off the Aquos Crystal, offering a hitherto unseen screen/body ratio and thin bezels. Since then, we’ve seen Xiaomi, Samsung, LG and others hop on the bandwagon.

But Sharp is back with the Aquos S2, and it looks pretty striking once again. Much like the Essential Phone, the Aquos S2 screen extends right to the top, only pausing for the front-facing camera, with an earpiece sitting atop the shooter.

Otherwise, much like the original Aquos Crystal and the Xiaomi Mi Mix, the chin of the phone is where you’ll find the biggest bezel, playing host to a physical home button and the Sharp logo.

Internally, you’re looking at a choice of either standard or high-end variants. Pick the standard model and you get a mid-range Snapdragon 630 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The high-end model delivers the beefy Snapdragon 660 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Sharp phones might not be available in SA, but the Aquos S2 makes you wish they were here

Other than these differences, you’re looking at a 5.5-inch 2040×1080 LCD screen (17:9) and a 3020mAh battery.

As for the camera side of things, the Sharp phone is packing a 12MP+8MP dual camera (with f/1.75 aperture) on the back and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. All three cameras pack 1.4 micron pixels, the brand claims.

The Sharp Aquos S2 starts at RMB2499 (R5064 as a straight conversion).
