Motorola’s Moto X4 is one shiny (but capable) smartphone

Lenovo’s smartphone subsidiary Motorola today announced a new addition to its upper-mid range lineup.

The Moto X4 (or Moto X fourth generation) is the company’s answer to the LG Q6 and Huawei Nova 2. And notably, its extremely shiny body somewhat resembles its two rivals.

As for the important bullet points, the Moto X4 packs a dual camera array at the rear, but not in similar vein to its Moto Z Force cousin. Instead, there’s one 12MP primary snapper and an 8MP 120-degree wide angle lens. Besides this difference, Motorola claims that the X4 still boasts the refocusing savvy of the Z Force.

Yes, it seems as though selective refocusing is here to stay, people.

Incidentally, the phone can also record video in 4K at 30fps.

On its front, there’s a 5.2-inch 1080p AMOLED screen. Internally, Motorola opted for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC with two RAM/storage options — 3GB RAM/32GB, or 4GB/64GB. The battery size is 3000mAh across both, while a 16MP selfie camera rounds off the hardware registry.

The phone is also notable for one nifty feature — Bluetooth 5.0. This enables the device to connect with up to four Bluetooth speakers simultaneously. Great for people who have too many portable boomboxes.

Prices begin at 399 euros, and will be heading to “other markets” beyond Europe later this year.

We’ve yet to receive word on a specific South African launch date and price, but will update this article accordingly once we receive that information.
