Canon launches seven Sumire Prime lenses for the ‘creative filmmaker’
Canon on Wednesday revealed seven cinema prime lenses as part of its new Sumire Prime series.
The interchangeable PL mount lenses, which can be modified for EF mount cameras, are built for the creative filmmaker.
“The Sumire Prime series enters the market as cinematographers aim to meet increasing demands for high-quality content with a more creative, personal and expressive feel,” said Canon in a press release.
The host of lenses include:
- CN-E 14mm T3.1 FP X
- CN-E 20mm T1.5 FP X
- CN-E 24mm T1.5 FP X
- CN-E 35mm T1.5 FP X
- CN-E 50mm T1.3 FP X
- CN-E 85mm T1.3 FP X
- CN-E 135mm T2.2 FP X
“With their newly designed cinematic look and unified warm colour tone, these prime lenses are designed to enhance creativity and operability in the cinema industry,” the company also noted.
All lenses in the range also feature 300-degree focus rotation, consistent filter diameter and “carefully developed focus resistance” which allows for “delicate” focusing.
The Sumire Prime lenses are compatible with 35mm full-frame format sensor and Super 35mm format sensor PL mount cameras.
The lenses will be displayed at NAB 2019 in the US, from 8 to 11 April.
It’s not clear if they will be heading to South Africa in the near future.
