Nokia 1 Plus arrives in South Africa for R1499

The Nokia 1 Plus is now available in South Africa.

Initially announced at MWC 2019 in Barcelona, it’s not to be confused with the smaller, cheaper, rounder Nokia 1. That said, it’s still running Android Pie Go edition — Google’s lightweight version of Android — and sports similar budget specs.

You’re still getting a polycarbonate shell, but the screen is notably larger at 5.45 inches with a 960×480 resolution. Internally, its using a quad-core Mediatek MT6739WW, mated to 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The latter can be bolstered using a microSD card, but you’ll need to sacrifice one of the two SIM slots available.

Speaking of which, the phone does support LTE, features support for WiFi 802.11 n, and Bluetooth 4.2. It features an FM radio with 3.5mm headphone jack, A-GPS with GLONASS support, and a removable 2500mAh battery.

And for those interested in its cameras, the Nokia 1 Plus uses an 8MP snapper with autofocus around the back, and a 5MP selfie camera.

The phone is available from R1499 from Vodacom outlets, and MTN outlets a little later in the month.
