Samsung still has no idea when the Galaxy Fold will launch

After it was announced in February and was set to debut two months later, it’s now May, and the Samsung Galaxy Fold is still not ready for launch.

After reviewers encountered a slew of issues with the device’s display, the company postponed its local and international launches. Samsung then claimed that the device will require “further improvements” before it official debuts.

“Initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge,” read Samsung’s statement back in April.

“There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected the display performance.”

However, according to an email received from Samsung by Droid-Life’s Kellen, Samsung is now asking users if they want to cancel their preorders.

“We are making progress in enhancing the Galaxy Fold to make sure it measures up to the high standards we know you expect from us,” the email reads.

“This means that we cannot confirm the anticipated ship date yet. We’ll update you with more specific shipping information in the coming weeks.”

Samsung South Africa initially promised that a Galaxy Fold event would be held in mid-May, but it’s not clear if that has also been cancelled too. We’ve reached out to Samsung South Africa for clarification and will update this article if we receive a response.

Nevertheless, it now seems that even Samsung doesn’t know when its new flagship will debut.
