Some older Nokia smartphones to receive an extra year of updates
Good news if you have an older HMD Global-era Nokia smartphone.
The Finnish smartphone maker announced that the Nokia 3, 5, 6, and 8 will receive quarterly security patches until October 2020, pushing their support period into a third year.
Granted, that’s not as often as the month-to-month patches we’re seeing with newer Nokias, but it’s still impressive.
Additionally, “after two years of monthly updates, the Nokia 3 will be the first model to start receiving updates quarterly updates from September 2019 until September 2020,” the company added in a forum post.
The 2’s patches will come to an end in November 2019, while the 6 (at least for those purchased in the US and India) will receive their last update on October 2019.
“We aim to be completely transparent when it comes to updates and software,” HMD Global added.
