Canon launches EOS C500 Mark II for professional cinematography

Canon C500 Mark II

Canon on Thursday revealed the latest addition to its cinematography range, the Canon EOS C500 Mark II with 5.9K full-frame sensor.

Thanks to the 5.9K sensor and the newly developed DIGIC DV 7 processor, the EOS C500 Mark II is an ideal choice for professionals looking to produce content in top quality 4K,” the company said in a press release, explaining that the C500 Mark II uses a colour-reproduction algorithm to convert 5.9K into 4K when necessary.

The professional cinema camera is the first in its range to feature Electronic Image Stabilization and support interchangeable lenses, giving users “unparalleled creative freedom”.

In addition to these features, the 1.73 kilogram C500 Mark II also includes multiple expansion options for electronic viewfinders, remote controllers and various inputs.

The C500 Mark 11 boasts Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus and is HDR capable as well.

Canon will display the camera, which also shows off “faithful colour reproduction” and an “immersive look”, at IBC 2019 in Amsterdam next week.

In late August, the company also launched the EOS 90D and M6 Mark II cameras, which will both go on sale in South Africa in October.
