P40 lite 5G launches as the most affordable 5G smartphone in South Africa [Sponsored]
Last week Huawei unveiled a new surprise for fans of the P40 series — announcing that the P40 lite 5G will launch in South Africa.
At under R10 000, this makes the P40 lite 5G the most affordable 5G smartphone available in South Africa — by several thousand rands.
Huawei wanted to bring 5G connectivity to the mid-range market. At its price, the smartphone offers this and more to users who want the benefits of 5G without the premium price tag.
However, there are also a few other upgrades for the new device, from its new processor to a high-resolution quad-camera setup.
Equipped with the latest Kirin processor
With its 5G connectivity, the smartphone also comes with the latest Kirin processor from Huawei.
The P40 lite 5G comes with the new 7nm Kirin 820 chipset — which features an octa-core CPU, a six-core GPU, and a proprietary NPU (neural-network processing unit).
This upgraded hardware supports the high speeds that 5G connectivity enables. But it also lends its power to other features such as image processing and photo or video denoising.
With more local mobile providers launching 5G networks, and the expansion of Rain’s 5G coverage, more users can access these networks without needing to invest in a phone that costs over R10 000.
A larger display plus a new high-res lens
Besides bringing 5G connectivity to the entry-level tier of Huawei’s P40 series, what other upgrades does the P40 lite 5G include?
The smartphone has a slightly larger display than its previous version, equipped with a 6.5-inch FHD+ screen. This provides users with more screen real estate, but also a higher pixel density for more clarity and sharper images.
Meanwhile, when it comes to photography, owners of the 5G version of the P40 lite can also enjoy the high-resolution 64MP rear camera setup.
The quad-camera features a 64MP high-resolution lens, an 8MP wide-angle lens, a 2MP bokeh lens, and a 2MP macro lens. This will enable high-res photography and video recording, but also up-close macro images that can capture the details of small subjects.
You can see a summary of the P40 lite 5G’s specs below:
- Display: 6.5-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080) LTPS LCD display
- Processor: Kirin 820 5G chipset
