Xbox ditches Live membership for free-to-play multiplayer games

Rocket League Xbox Xbox Live Gold Free to play multiplayer

Xbox no longer requires players to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription for free-to-play multiplayer games.

The company announced the previously-promised change on 21 April.

Despite being free-to-play, Xbox required players to be online subscription members to play the games’ multiplayer modes.

The games list includes popular titles such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Rocket League.

Xbox also made party chat available for the games for free on Xbox One and Xbox Series S and X.
