Xbox adds spending limits to Family Settings App
Xbox has introduced a feature to its Family Settings App that lets users add money and set spending limits on their children’s gaming accounts.
The company added the feature after it received feedback from parents.
With it, parents can manage how much money their children are allowed to spend in-game.
The allocated funds apply to any in-game purchases, including skins and apps.
“This feature is also a great way to reward your child,” General Manager for Xbox Family, Trust, and Safety, Kim Kunes, wrote in a blog post.
“For example, if they complete their weekly chores, you can add money to their account as a weekly allowance. Or add money to their account if they did especially well on a recent math test.”
“Whatever the reason, use this feature to make sure your child stays within budget and to prevent any surprise spending.”
Users can choose specific amounts to allocate to their Microsoft accounts.
Once the transaction has completed, the funds cannot be exchanged for cash.
Xbox launched the Family Settings App in 2020. It is available to download for free on iOS and Android devices.
The app provides parents with tools to regulate their child’s gaming. They can set and track screen time limits, apply content filters, manage their friends list, and receive daily and weekly activity reports.
