Planescape Torment and more: this week’s top mobile games
We’re back with another look at the world of mobile games, as we look for the most entertaining titles in recent days.
Top picks this week include Planescape Torment and Desert Island Fishing. Check out the full rundown below.
Planescape Torment: Enhanced Edition (paid – Android, iOS)
Planescape Torment is one of gaming’s most celebrated titles, being a rather atmospheric point and click adventure of sorts.
Now, mobile gamers can see what the fuss is all about with this port, featuring remastered music and a tablet interface.
Planescape Torment is available for R150 on iOS and R140 on Android.
Wire (free – Android, iOS)
Ketchapp is one of the more prolific mobile publishers around, so we’re not surprised to see a new title this week.
Wire is pretty simple to understand, as you control a wire and avoid black obstacles. The wire automatically moves down the screen, but holding down on the screen will see the wire moving up. So it’s a pretty delicate balancing act, being reminiscent of Flappy Bird.
Wire is free to play, but expect numerous pervasive advertising.
MouseBot (free – Android, iOS)
From the same team behind the popular Riptide GP franchise comes MouseBot, an all-new title from Vector Unit.
Branded as a “driving platformer”, you’ll be controlling the titular robot vehicle through a variety of mazes, collecting cheese along the way. It’s very easy initially, but things quickly pick up steam as more obstacles are introduced.
MouseBot isn’t the most innovative game around, but it’s got tight controls, slick visuals and a simple premise.
Desert Island Fishing (free – Android)
It’s not officially released yet, but Desert Island Fishing is available in Google Play’s Early Access programme.
The title is basically Ridiculous Fishing without the guns, as you catch a variety of fish. The mechanics are simple too, as you flick a slider to cast (small flicks result in shallow casts), tap the screen at the right time, then reel the catch in.
And much like Ridiculous Fishing, there are a variety of fish at different depths, several upgrades to unlock and a few different islands to fish from. Give it a go if you’re looking for a break from the endless runners.
Comet – A Game of Orbits (free – Android, iOS)
Spotted by r/AndroidGaming, this nifty title brings to mind last year’s sublime Orbit. So that means some lovely orbital mechanics are in tow.
You’ll need to fling a comet around various celestial bodies, avoiding collisions and conducting various orbits to reach your goal. Much like Orbit, it starts off easily, but quickly picks up in difficulty.
Comet is free to play, but it does have a very reasonable system for ads in place (allowing you to choose between splash pages, video ads or the paid approach to earn extra lives).
