Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 now in South Africa
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (review) was one of our favourite phones of last year, owing to its capable specs and wallet-friendly price tag.
Xiaomi released the Redmi Note 4 in China back in January though, slowly making its way to the rest of the world. Now, after confirming their intentions to bring it to the country last month, local distributor MIA Group has quietly listed the device for South Africa.
MIA’s website lists the 32GB model for R3599, actually coming in slightly cheaper than the Redmi Note 3’s original price. In saying so, it’s worth noting (heh) that the new phone is more of a sidestep in some ways compared to last year’s device.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 isn’t really an upgrade on paper, but the price is certainly attractive
In fact, the Redmi Note 3’s Snapdragon 650 chip is more powerful than the Note 4’s Snapdragon 625, featuring two high-powered cores and four energy-saving cores. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 625 features eight energy-efficient cores, but no heavyweight cores. In any event, you can expect the Note 4 to feature longer endurance due to the chipset and slightly larger battery.
Otherwise, the local Note 4 packs a 13MP f/2.0 main camera, 5MP selfie shooter, 4100mAh battery, 32GB of expandable storage, 3GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch full HD screen.
Meanwhile, the Note 3 delivers a 16MP f/2.0 main camera, 5MP front-facing camera, 4000mAh battery and a 5.5-inch full HD screen. It was also available in 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 3GB/32GB flavours.
The new phone is available in gold or grey.
