Sony is the latest to ditch MWC 2020 over coronavirus fears
Sony will no longer attend MWC 2020 as coronavirus fears spread through the tech industry.
The Japanese smartphone maker issued a statement on Monday, stating that it places “the utmost importance on the safety and wellbeing of our customers, partners, media and employees.”
For this reason it won’t attend the annual conference held in Barcelona.
Sony joins LG, ZTE, and more recently Nvidia, Amazon and Ericsson, who have all pulled out of the event.
MWC 2020 isn’t a complete wash out though, as some companies have confirmed their event times and their attendance.
TCL, HMD Global, and Vivo will likely still show off their hardware, but there’s still plenty of time for companies to pull out.
MWC 2020 is set to kick off on 24 February, with some firms scheduled to unveil products as early as the 22nd.
