Presenting the new, beautiful Retina Display Macbook Pro
It started at 4pm CAT. The Apple store went down as it’s wont to do, only to be replaced with “we’ll be back.” But now king Apple has returned, with a Retina Display rocking hard on a 15-inch Macbook.
Apple asked us to put our devices to silent mode, and it begun in earnest. Coldplay pumped out of the auditorium speakers but the best was yet to come. Namely Siri as the presenter of the WWDC. Then there was an ass-load of Apple marketing and happy people using iPad’s and getting happier and finally, it happened.
Tim Cook took the stage. “Today we’re announcing exciting new changes in our notebook lineup…”
Presenting The New Macbook Air
We get an Ivy Bridge processors with a 2GHz dual-core i7, up to 8GB of 1600MHz memory and “60% faster graphics” according to Apple. Alongside this is a 512GB of flash memory. Holy hell. And boom, USB 3.0 bitches. The Air will rock two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. For video chats there’ll be a 720p Facetime camera.
And the Macbook Pro
It’s a 2.7Ghz quad-core CPU, with 8GB of RAM, and the “60% faster graphics” which sounds pretty math. The GPU is a Kepler GeForce GT 650M with a 1GB RAM. the 13-inch is US$1199, the 15-inch US$1799 and US$2199 and what the hell, there’s still optical drives in them. Not cool.
The new kids on the block
Legacy technology is gone. The new MacBook Pro is a next-gen beast. It’s gorgeous, pure and simple. It’s wafer thin, and hotter than the sun. It could be thinner than an anorexic supermodel. And at 0.71-inches thin, no-ones going to top this skinny laptop for a while. And it weighs under 2Kgs.
Biggest thrill
There’s Retina Display and here’s the stats: It’s a 15.4-inch display, a pixel density of 2880×1800. which equals 220PPI. Reduced glare, better viewing angles yadda, yadda. It’s hotter than shit and it’s coming soon.
Thanks to a “breakthrough in asymmetric batteries” we’ll get loads of power for that 2.7Ghz quad-core i7 CPU. And 16GB RAM, just like, wow man. There’s 768GB flash storage, SD, HDMI and USB 3.0, MagSafe 2.0 and Thunderbolt access. Battery life is promised at seven hours and thirty hours standby.
And mmmm that glass trackpad is a beauty. This compliments the Bluetooth 4.0, dual mics and FaceTime HD camera. And apparently, it has three-million more pixels than a full-HD TV. With five-million pixels, it’s a stunner. This is thanks to custom components, such as the unibody case being a true component of the display.
Best of all, the new Macbook range ships today. Pity the Apple store is still down.
We’ll tell you one thing, Apple hardly ever disappoints when it comes to sleek, next-gen hardware. Read about iOS 6 and the WWDC wrap-up on the Gear and the Meme.
