Further Exynos security updates being pushed OTA to Galaxy owners
Just two weeks ago Gearburn reported on the security issue that affected Galaxy owners with Exynos processors (and probably other devices with the same processor) causing the device to open itself up to hacking. Samsung was quick to respond to users fears and delivered a patch to fix the problem, and today another patch is rolling out for the Galaxy Note II. The fix promises to “improves security and provides bug fixes”.
The T889UVALL4 update fixes various “Exynos and other security enhancements” along with “various bug fixes.”
This security flaw had the potential to be pretty serious, as it had been discovered back in November 2012 that the S-Note stored your Google account credentials in plain text, and that the file could be accessed on a rooted device. A patch was developed by an XDA developer at that stage for those who wanted to trust his work.
Together with the Galaxy Note II update, there is also the FL24 update update for the Sprint Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, which in addition to the “security updates,” also adds Sprint Mobile’s Connections Optimizer.
Apart from the Galaxy range, the issue also had the potential to affect other devices with Exynos processors, that includes the Galaxy Note and Note 2, certain tablets using Exynos 4, Galaxy Player models, Galaxy Tab 2s and the Galaxy Note 10.1.
