Take a closer look at the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX and new HD 7″ [photos]

We wrote about Amazon’s brand-new Kindle lineup earlier today: the Fire HDX 7″ and 8.9″ and the revamped Fire HD 7″. Right now though, we’ve got a gallery that outlines some of the hottest and coolest features of each tablet.

In our opinion, the fact that the Fire HD only costs R1390 (US$139) is a definite highlight. At this price-point, and with this hardware, it’s hard to see how it’s not going to fly off the shelves. Enjoy the gallery below, and look forward to these tablets, coming from October.

Fire Os 3.0

This is "Mojito", with one-tap archiving which moves apps to the Amazon Cloud. There's also now a "quick switch" (move between apps without going to the Home screen) and "new and improved accessibility tools."

Power-packed

It's a powerful tablet of note. The 7" HDX has a 2.2Ghz quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 4x the GPU performance of the older Kindle, Dolby Digital Plus and almost 17-hours of reading life.

Mayday

Available through a single tap and ready for action any time of the day, Mayday instantly connects you to an Amazon assistant who will guide you through any errors you have with the device. Amazon says that in "15 seconds or less" an Amazon assistant will reply.

Video Calling

Both tablets have a front 720p camera, and both tablets can upload up to 20 minute long videos to the Amazon Cloud.

Beyond Hd

The 8.9" has a nutty 2560x1600 resolution with a 339PPI. The 7" rocks a 1920x1200 display at 323PPI. Both devices will also "display content as the photographer or videographer intended" thanks to 100% sRGB, perfect colour reproduction.

Revamped Kindle Hd 7"

The "new" Kindle Fire HD 7" has a 1280x800 display, is 60% faster than previous Kindle Fires, a ten-hour battery life, is way more streamlined than before and has Dolby Digital Plus audio. It's also only 346g. It comes in either an 8 or 16GB option. All this for US$139? Yes please.
