Apple leaks details about iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 with Burst Mode, TouchID
As is tradition, before the official release of Apple’s latest range of iPads, Macs and its new OS X, details about the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 were leaked. The big guy’s just giving us a bite of the apple to whet our appetite for the main event.
Well spotted by 9to5Mac, the iPad User Guide for iOS 8.1 temporarily posted in iTunes indicated that the new iPads do in fact have TouchID which was first introduced with last year’s iPhone 5s and carried on with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The guide further notes that the high speed photo feature, Burst Mode, will be introduced to the iPad Air 2, perhaps hinting that we might see an improved camera all round? Other rumours have also suggested that the new Air’s camera will see an upgrade from 5MP to 8MP, but no word of LED Flash.
The overall design of the new iPads seems to have been left untouched since their predecessors — this is not a bad idea.
iOS 8.1, as the guide’s name suggests, means that we’ll likely see the arrival of iOS 8.1 which will carry functionality for Apple Pay — the new in-store mobile payment feature showcased last month.
Whether an Apple employee really made a slip-up or not will forever be a mystery. We do know that the leak was timed minutes after Google announced its new range of devices, including its new premium Nexus tablets.
