Weekend News Recap – 7 March: Uncharted 4 beta, Ray Tomlinson dies and HTC 10 leaks

Although Sony pushed back the launch date of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End once again, gamers were able to experience the Uncharted 4‘s multiplayer arena mode this weekend. Servers opened on 5 March and closed 7 March 9.59am SAST.
Developer Naughty Dog called it a stress test, but gamers can access a very limited sliver of the title. For the most part, that sliver runs at 1080p/60fps and looks decidedly glorious. There were issues with load times, loadout and matchmaking, but the third-person shooter set in ruins and other maps is a pretty interesting experience.
In sadder news, Ray Tomlinson — widely regarded as the father of the modern email system — died Sunday, aged 74.
Back in 1971, Tomlinson sent the world’s first email using the SNDMSG protocol and the @ symbol, which darted mail files from one machine to the intended target. Perhaps this wasn’t a major news event back in the seventies, but in 2016 — nearly 45 years later — emails remain the lifeblood of businesses and human interaction across the world.
Industry heavyweights have taken to social media to pay their respects, including one of the world’s most popular email platforms, Gmail:

If the latest rumours are to be believed, the HTC One M10 will drop its clumsy moniker, and launch simply as the HTC 10.

The company’s latest flagship phone is slated for imminent release, after images purporting to be the new device surfaced online last week and this weekend. Specs include a 5.1-inch screen with a quad HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
