Google Pixel smartphones leaked by Carphone Warehouse
Google is expected to take the wraps off a load of stuff at its event tomorrow, including two so-called Pixel smartphones.
But what should we expect from them, then? Well, aside from the fact that HTC is making them, there are quite a few things to know, as the UK’s Carphone Warehouse has leaked the goods.
The Google Pixel XL
Pretty much being the Nexus 6P in many ways, the Pixel XL is obviously the larger of the two Google phones.
However, the comparisons between the two go deeper than just size though, as the retailer’s prematurely leaked spec page shows.
Both devices have a large 3450mAh battery and a 12.3MP f/2.0 main camera with 1.55 micron pixels (the XL apparently has optical image stabilisation too). The specs also show that the Google Pixel XL shares a similar (if not identical) 8MP front facing camera.
Otherwise, we’re looking at a smartphone with a new Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 AMOLED display. Rounding out the supposed specs are a fingerprint scanner and 32GB or 128GB of expandable storage (!).
The standard-sized Google Pixel
The UK retailer leaked details for the smaller Google Pixel too, so what makes it different from the bigger device?
Well, we’ve got a 5-inch 1920×1080 display and a smaller 2770mAh battery (the leaked details claim seven hours of talk time from 15 minutes of charging). But otherwise, it’s got the same Snapdragon 821 processor and 4GB of RAM as the Pixel XL, putting it on equal footing. Actually, with the lower resolution screen, you could expect the smaller device to have the edge in some tasks.
The camera department seems identical to the Google Pixel XL too, featuring a 12.3MP main camera with OIS (and 1.55 micron pixels) and an 8MP selfie shooter.
Other notable specs include a (presumably rear-mounted) fingerprint scanner and 32GB or 128GB of expandable storage.
