Jag unveils Bloodhound SSC F-Type Rapid Response Vehicle

A while ago we gave you the lowdown on the Bloodhound SSC, the latest attempt by the Brits to break the land speed record. It’s an immensely fast, incredibly beautiful piece of engineering. It follows therefore that it wouldn’t do to provide it with an ordinary support vehicle.

It seems a pretty good thing then that it will be supported by a very special Jaguar F Type.

As well as sporting Bloodhound SSC livery, the F Type R AWD Bloodhound SSC RRV, comes with a 550PS (542hp) 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine.

The car has already played a role in supporting the Bloodhound record attempt. One was equipped with the same radio equipment as the rocket powered Bloodhound SSC, the F-TYPE was driven head-to-head at top speed with a similarly equipped jet flown at 500 knots and just 20 feet above the ground. According to Jaguar, the combined closing speed of almost 700mph enabled the successful test of the system that will allow communications between the ground crew and Andy Green in Bloodhound SSC.

As Technical Partner of Bloodhound SSC, Jaguar is supplying engines, engineering expertise and a number of support vehicles for the attempt to break the world land speed record. The F-TYPE R AWD has already fulfilled a critical role in the development of the Bloodhound SSC with a communications test back in November 2014.
