New BMW X1 doesn’t look too different, is crammed with tech

BMW has announced the a new version of its X1 crossover and while its looks might not set the world on fire, it is absolutely packed with tech.

According to the German marque, the new BMW X1 offers more space for passengers and luggage, new four-cylinder engines, an efficiency-optimised version of the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and newly developed chassis technology aimed at enhancing sporting ability and ride comfort compared to the outgoing model.

Fuel consumption and emissions meanwhile have been reduced by up to 17%, BMW claims.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a BMW if you didn’t have to fork out for all the good stuff there wasn’t an extensive options list. Among the items on the options list are full-LED headlights, Dynamic Damper Control, the BMW Head-Up Display and the Driving Assistant Plus system.

Two petrol and three diesel units will be available from launch in October 2015, all of which have four cylinders and are members of the BMW Group’s new engine family. Outputs range from 110 kW/150 hp to 170 kW/231 hp. The engines link up with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed Steptronic unit, both of which are new developments.
