As an avid motorsport fan, I’ve seen a fair number of ludicrous crashes in my time. But nothing compares to this road accident caught on tape in Sandton.

A female driver believed to be in her 20s, was piloting an Audi TT when the vehicle veered off the road Sunday morning. The car then became airborne, slammed into a roadside signpost, and came to rest at an adjacent wall.

The entire shunt, which took place on the corner of Rivonia and Marion Road, Sandton, is over in less than four seconds.

Arrive Alive tweeted a video of the unfolding accident to its official account.

According to ER24 first responders, the woman was treated at the scene, and later transported to a local hospital.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found a wrecked performance vehicle lying next to a wall. The body of a woman was found lying a short distance behind the vehicle,” ER24 states in a press release.

“Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.”

As for the car, it was a complete write off.

Fragments of the Audi TT, including a number of the vehicle’s suspension corners, were found littered across the road. The entire front of the car is deformed, while the engine itself broke free of the vehicle’s chassis during the shunt.

The current condition of the driver is unknown.
