Volvo is building a jacked up cross country S60 sedan

Do you like high ground clearance and being able to cross tricky terrain but hate SUVs and the various crossovers they’ve inspired? Fret not dear reader, for the boffins at Volvo have your back.

The Swedish car company has announced that it will be adding the S60 sedan to its collection of cross country vehicles. Set to debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Vovlo is hoping the the jacked up sedan will be as successful as its cross country wagons were in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The S60 Cross Country shares a number of features with the V60 Cross Country, including an increased ride height of 65mm and the same All Wheel Drive system. That said, the S60 Cross Country will also be delivered with front-wheel drive in Europe and selected markets.

According to Volvo, the S60 Cross Country will come with a full range of powertrain option, ranging from the front-wheel drive 190 hp diesel D4 to the 250bhp all wheel drive T5.

“We have included all the capability-driven benefits of the Cross Country brand in this new model, while offering a completely unique expression of adventure and all-road readiness in a distinctly sporty and stylish package,” says Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Product Strategy and Vehicle Line Management at Volvo Cars.

We’re not sure about you, but we think it’s a little bit odd that a company pulling out of all forms of racing for safety reasons is building a car that will make it easy for every lead-footed lunatic to make all their rally driving fantasies a reality.
