Ford Fiesta ST200 is a ‘classic in the making’
Hot hatches are interesting specimens, and there’s one constant inherent in their DNA: they can always, always get hotter.
Although Geneva Motor Show officially kicks off tomorrow for the public, today Ford and company are getting the menial media launches out of the way. And the company’s latest car, the Ford Fiesta ST200, is one of the tastiest announcements of the day.
It’s the most powerful production Fiesta ever made, and features around 10% more power than its previous ST sibling. There’s also 20% more torque on tap, which gives drivers some more thrust between those red lights.
The engine responsible is a “specially calibrated” four-cylinder 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol unit, which propels the car from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds and tops out at 230km/h.
“The Fiesta ST is truly beloved by owners and critics,” explains Joe Bakaj, Ford Europe’s VP of product development. “The ST200 takes this special drivers’ car to a new level of power and performance.
“I think it’s a future classic in the making.”
The car will be available to purchase from June in European markets, but pricing and availability for South Africa is not yet available.
