27 unique, crazy, cool things caught on GoPro

The GoPro camera, in its various renditions, has by and large democratised HD filming. Notable for its ease of use, durability — I mean GoPros have survived falls from near space! — and underwater housing capabilities, this little brand of camera has become a household name.

If you’ve spent even just a little bit of time on the internet you’ve probably seen a gazillion and one GoPro videos, most likely hilarious animal POVs or extreme sports set to ‘Sail’ by AWOLNATION.

To celebrate, nothing in particular, we’ve decided to put together the ultimate GoPro compilation list of the craziest, weirdest, hilarious, impressive and not-so-impressive videos we could find. You might have seen a few of these before, but hopefully a revisit was in order anyway, and others will hopefully delight in their freshness.

Warning, there are a lot of animal videos on this list. Enjoy.

1. Swimming with Dolphins – Santa Cruz, CA

Probably GoPro royalty by now, this video filmed back in 2012 off the coast of Santa Cruz remains a breathtaking experience of Pacific White-Side dolphins.

2. Skydivers miraculous escape as planes collide

Professional skydivers are a certain breed of crazy, but I doubt even they would expect this kind of thing to happen. Luckily no one was hurt, even the pilots.

3. Ball State University Swim and Dive Harlem Shake

Just because you weren’t sick of the Harlem Shake yet, we’ve pulled this one out of the ol’ internet archives.

4. Biting Elbows – The Stampede (Official Music Video)

Probably my personal favourite on the list, this music video for ‘The Stampede’ by Biting Elbows shows how much GoPros suit Parkour, with a little added narrative to spice things up.

5. Grizzly eats my GoPro

6. Rattlesnake attacks GoPro helmet camera

Ever wanted to see inside a snake’s mouth? Here you go.

7. Pogo GoPro

This little bad boy not only shows off POV Pogo, but has some decent ‘bullet time’ (ala The Matrix) effects thanks to six GoPros lined up in a row. It looks pretty awesome.

8. The First GoPro in Near Space (80,000ft)!

If you didn’t believe GoPro’s were tough this video will surely change your mind: falling 80 000 feet from near space without a case. Also the curvature of the Earth!

9. GoPro Monkey

This is pretty adorable and should even out this list’s cute-factor.

10. Biting Elbows – ‘Bad Motherfucker’ Official Music Video

A spiritual sequel of sorts to ‘The Stampede’, this time for the song ‘Bad Motherfucker’ — it’s blood and gore makes it more NSFW than the original but the stunts alone make it worth checking out.

11. GoPro Skateboarding

GoPros have the nifty ability to show unique angles of familiar activities. This video shows off skateboarding from underneath the board. It’s somewhat hypnotic, or maybe that’s the smooth jazz soundtrack.

12. GoPro: Lions – The New Endangered Species?

Kevin Richardson, the ‘Lion Whisperer’, gets up close and personal with one of nature’s greatest creatures in this amazing clip. Here’s the original hug. Also Hyenas make their appearance too.

13. Leviathan Official Trailer #1 (2012)

Leviathan is a feature documentary about the fishing industry. The entire film was shot on dozens of GoPros and almost certain to give you motion sickness.

14. Tortucam GoPro (Tortuga Turtle)

If you’ve ever wondered what kind of soundtrack a Turtle’s life is set to, wonder no more.

15. Flying eagle POV

What’s quite striking in this clip is just how similar humans in wingsuits feel to a flying eagle. Also it brings out your inner Zach Braff.

16. Dog Jumps Off Cliff

I’m not sure if this video makes me want to jump off a cliff or be a dog… either way. It reminds me of this music video by Johnny Neon shot in Cape Town showcasing a day-in-a-life-of-a-dog.

17. Snow Day For Longleat Safari Park Tigers!

Right so obviously you wanted to see inside more animals’ mouths. Here are some Snow Lions.

Even in the most unlikeliest of places, there are pickpockets.

Let’s just be clear, multi-tasking isn’t for everyone, but when you pull it off you really pull it off.

22. Ice Caves

GoPros are pretty darn cool already, but combine them with drones and suddenly you can capture HD footage in places you never thought you could, like the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska.

23. Red Bull Stratos

Probably the most iconic footage captured by a GoPro so far in its short history. Here’s the full Red Bull Stratos story, remember? It was when Felix Baumgartner jumped from the edge of space back to Earth and broke the sound barrier on his way down.

24. Backflip Over 72ft Canyon – Kelly McGarry Red Bull Rampage 2013

Right so I tried to avoid extreme sports as much as possible but this backflip was too extreme to ignore.

25. GoPro on Trombone: Star Wars — Imperial March

Proving that the GoPros can be used for things other than animals and sports, here’s a great tribute to Star Wars.
