Google’s latest big purchase? A smart spoon maker
Google just made a purchase that looks set to further bolster its capabilities in the Internet of Things and healthcare spaces. This time though, the target isn’t some deep-level analytics company though or an outfit trying to solve death. It’s a spoon maker.
To be fair, that’s selling Lift Labs a bit short. The company is actually behind a very smart spoon designed to make life easier for people with Parkinson’s Disease.
Lift Labs will join Google’s [X] division, the part of the company that concerns itself with so-called moonshot projects.
The technology startup will apparently continue to sell its tremor-reducing spoon, something that Google says it’s entirely on-board with. It does however add that it’s going to try find news of using the technology.
“We’re also going to explore how their technology could be used in other ways to improve the understanding and management of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor,” the internet giant says in a Google+ post.
Neither company has given a value for the acquisition.
