Want doggie cuddles? UberPaws is coming to Cape Town

From ice cream and electric vehicles to shopping and more, Uber isn’t shy about trying new things.

Now, Cape Town dog lovers can rejoice because the UberPaws initiative is coming to the Mother City.

“On Wednesday, 15 June, at the tap of a button, Uber will send out these cute fur balls and their raisers to the people of Cape Town for only R100 between 10.30am to 1.30pm,” the smart cab service said in an emailed statement.

All fees will go to the SA Guide-Dogs Association and a dog visit lasts for 15 minutes.

“From seven weeks old until 11-18 months a guide dog in training is placed with a raiser and part of their training is to be exposed to different places, areas and people. So allowing them some extra cuddle time on Wednesday is all in a day’s work!” the company added.

To take advantage of the promotion, enter the code “PAWSZA” (without quotation marks) in the Promotions field. Then slide to the UberPaws view to request a ride.

Dogs taking part in the promotion are between six and 12 months old.

The news also comes as Uber launches its UberGreen initiative in Cape Town.

UberGreen’s Cape Town leg will allow customers to request BMW i3 electric vehicles, being priced identically to an UberX ride.
