The Bookmarks 2017: here are the winners

In case you weren’t anywhere near Twitter or Sandton last night, the 2017 and ninth edition of The Bookmarks took place last night.

The IAB Bookmark Awards (as it is more formally known) is known in the digital industry for “rewarding excellence in digital and recognising the powerful impact interactive has on the overall marketing mix”.

You could call it the SAMAs of the digital industry.

“South Africa’s top talent and most memorable campaigns were recognised, illustrating how far the digital industry has come and laying the path for future innovation,” IAB writes in a press release.

So, who won?

Memeburn and Creative Spark founder Matthew Buckland took home a special award for “Best Individual Contribution to Digital” for his work on the latter.

News24 also took home nine awards, including two Golds for “Publisher Site” and “Mobile Publication”. The publication’s Hlaudi Motsoeneng feature also awarded it a Bronze. 24.com took home even more (you’re welcome to count them in the table below).

Ogilvy earned KFC the honour of “Best Digital Brand”, while the entire Ogilvy spiderweb network grabbed over 20 accolades.

The King James Group also pocketed more than 10 awards.

Long story short: a lot of companies and people won a lot of awards in Sandton last night.

“Congratulations to all the incredible creatives, agencies, publishers and campaigns that were recognised this evening,” lauds IAB CEO Josephine Buys.

“We received a record number of entries this year, many of which exhibited groundbreaking digital knowledge and strategic relevance. Our judges were inspired by the way our winning entrants combined courage, creativity and business savvy to create enduring work.”
