What a week (and a weekend) it has been South Africa. Sink your teeth into Monday and catch up with the social highlights and news you missed this week.

Peter Ndoro ‘kills’ Cyril Ramaphosa, takes a break from the SABC

SABC anchor Peter Ndoro on Thursday was asked to take a break from anchoring the channel’s newsdesk after he accidentally announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa had died, and not late Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

#PeterNdoro was outshone by #SONA2018, but nonetheless regained trending status on Saturday after DA leader Mmusi Maimane posted the below tweet.

SABC employees also came to Peter Ndoro’s defence.

“We have to remember the poor guy was on air from 15h00 until 02h00 the previous night; ELEVEN hours of LIVE television!” Ronesh Dhawraj, a researcher at the SABC revealed.

It’s not yet known when Peter Ndoro will return.

#GodsPlan: the million reasons why Drake’s new video is trending

Oh goodness, Drake is controversial again.

In his new video “God’s Plan”, the Toronto-born rapper gave away more than US$1-million in cash to the public.

Some believed it was the “best music video ever”.

Even politicians, from both Toronto and filming-location Miami, were impressed.

Others just couldn’t understand the hatred.

#GodsPlan became one of South Africa’s hottest talking points on social media this week.

#WakandaForever: Black Panther celebrated across the world

The only hashtag that could rival #SONA2018 this weekend, Marvel’s Black Panther opened to South African audiences. It’s safe to say that people really enjoyed it?

This was Bloemfontein Friday night:

International celebrities called the movie a “movement” rather than just a superhero flick.

“BELIEVE. THE. HYPE. All hail the king,” wrote Ryan Reynolds. This tweet also began trending in South Africa Saturday afternoon.

Mexico shaken by mag 7.2 quake

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake rocked southern and central Mexico on Friday. There were no reports of casualties as a result of the quake, but a reconnaissance helicopter crashed while surveying the area affected, killing 12.

England and Wales joined in too

That’s right, an “actual tiny earthquake”.

Measuring magnitude 4.2 on the Richter Scale, it wasn’t felt by many. But it had others shook. Pun definitely intended.

In case you saw Ajay Gupta this weekend…

A tweet by IRS Forensic Investigations, better known as @FraudWatchZA, went viral Saturday after it nonchalantly shared the passports of Ajay Gupta, Atul Gupta and Duduzane Zuma.

“WANTED FOR QUESTIONING IN TERMS OF POCA, PRECCA AND PFMA. Contact local authorities with any details,” the tweet read.

As chill a tweet as you’ll ever see.

A reward was also offered for information that leads to Ajay Gupta, Atul Gupta, Tony Gupta and Duduzane Zuma’s arrests. Naturally, Twitter lost its mind. Read all about it here.
