Snapchat is seemingly the new social network to join if you’re into watching people brutally murdering animals.

Two US teenagers were charged with animal cruelty after filming their killing of an opossum mother and her babies on Snapchat.

The teenagers from Kennesaw, Georgia, reportedly used a baseball bat to kill the opossum mother, and then “allegedly used a chemical mixture that included bleach and ammonia to kill three other babies”, a local news report gruesomely read.

While the incident occurred early April, the adult assailant appeared in court last week. The story’s this week trending across the internet, with users on Reddit particularly outraged.

“If Dexter taught me anything, it’s that killing animals is the first step to becoming a serial killer, or living life as a secluded lumberjack,” one user jibed.

This isn’t the only case of animal cruelty videos appearing on US social media spheres either.

Just this week, two men from Ohio were charged with animal cruelty for torturing baby opossums using a butane torch. The video was published to Facebook.

In December 2017, three men from Florida were charged with animal cruelty after they dragged a shark behind a boat. The video went viral on Instagram.

It’s not just the US either. Four men in August 2016 reportedly ran over a kangaroo, stabbed it, and continued to assault it in South Australia. The video was also uploaded to Snapchat.
