Halloween’s favourite boy band, the Slashstreet Boys, are back
Halloween is just a few days away, and if you were thinking of dressing as one of the Backstreet Boys, you might want to reconsider that decision.
Don’t get me wrong. The world’s best boy band from the 1990s can still rock a karaoke bar like nothing else, but this parody may have just murdered them.
“I’ll Kill You That Way” is what happens when Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Ghostface, Freddy Krueger and Leatherface cover the boy band’s “I Want It That Way”.
They’re known in the industry as the Slashstreet Boys.
Complete with autotune, the boy band music video tropes you’d expect, and that cloying chord progression, this video is a beautifully creepy tribute to the 90s zeitgeist, horror movies you watched as a kid from behind a pillow, and Halloween itself.
Created by and posted on YouTube by parody channel The Merkins late last week, the clip has amassed over 3.5-million views, and 234 000 likes.
It’s not their first video together either.
Last Halloween, the Slashstreet Boys debut “Slashing Bodies” covered “Rock Your Body Right”, and it’s about as awkwardly creepy as you’d expect.
Freddy too apparently enjoyed a solo career prior to joining the Slashstreet crew. In 2015, an explicit Tupac-inspired freestyle appeared on The Merkin’s channel, racking up 780 000 views.
While One Direction made it impossible for boy bands to exist beyond 2016, who can come close to rivalling or usurping the Slashstreet Boys?
One YouTube commenter has an idea.
“I have a great idea for a rival band…….Dead kids on the block…..members Jigsaw, Pinhead, Chucky, Pennywise, and Hannibal,” he wrote.
