Airbnb Luxe for super wealthy holiday makers launches in Cape Town
Airbnb primarily caters for middle-to-upper income travellers, but what about super rich Instagram influencers who can’t wait to travel but can’t be bothered to plan anything? That’s where Airbnb Luxe comes in.
Launched on Tuesday by the accommodation and travel firm, Luxe is essentially a branch of Airbnb that offers the most extraordinarily expensive homes on Earth for extremely wealthy clients.
According to Bloomberg, the average price of all the listings available sits at $14 000 (R200 000) a week. The most expensive is a $1-million private island chain in Tahiti.
The entire trip is planned for users from start to finish, including a chef for meals, airport transfers, housekeeping, and in the case of Tahiti, a 50-staff army. Logistics are also handled by a “trip designers” who oversees the requirements quests may have.
Notably, homeowners need to apply to feature in Luxe. and Airbnb has a 300+ checklist of criteria to qualify. Interestingly, there’s already 57 Luxe listings in Cape Town ranging from R4000 per night to R130 000 per night to rent.
Airbnb notes it will add 12 more cities to its Luxe list in 2019, including Milan, Paris, and Austin.
