HBO Max will exclusively stream ‘The Big Bang Theory’ at launch in 2020

HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s upcoming subscription-based streaming service, will exclusively stream all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory when the platform launches in 2020.

A report by Deadline on Tuesday confirmed that WarnerMedia secured a five-year deal to stream the show, which will also continue to air on the company’s TBS network through to 2028.

Though details surrounding the cost of the deal have not been revealed, Deadline believes bagging The Big Bang Theory cost WarnerMedia more than the $425-million it took to secure streaming rights for Friends.

Here in South Africa, the comedy show is available on Netflix and will be unaffected by the HBO Max deal, according to Netflix’s local division.

In August, reports revealed that HBO Max will stream Doctor Who exclusively at launch as well.

With the likes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Friends, Doctor Who and The Big Bang Theory set to stream on HBO Max, the service may become the home of everyone’s favourite series.
