SAWS issues further heavy rain, flood warnings for Gauteng on Tuesday

After nearly three days of persistent warnings and watches, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) on Tuesday delivered more bad news to those in northern parts of South Africa, including an already saturated Gauteng.

A warning for “heavy rain leading to localised flooding” is in effect all day on Tuesday across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and northern KwaZulu-Natal.

This comes after flooding was reported in a number of areas across Gauteng and Mpumalanga on Monday.

SAWS also issued a watch on Tuesday for “severe thunderstorms” across the “North West, central and western Free State and the extreme eastern parts of the Northern Cape”.

Weather is fickle, subject to change and more dangerous than it seems, so we’d recommend following SAWS on its official Twitter account to receive realtime updates.

And be sure to bookmark its warnings portal too, where it regularly updates the advisories and more serious information.
