Immersive Facebook 360 app hits the Samsung Gear VR
Facebook has released an app that makes finding 360 degree photos and videos that much easier on Gear VR, the company announced yesterday. Facebook 360, which can be downloaded from the Oculus app, is a “one-stop shop” for all the 360 content that Facebook provides.
The app allows users to view saved content, content from those they follow, their own timeline, and an “explore” feed that will feature the most popular 360 degree content on Facebook.
The app also provides the ability to share, save and react to the 360 degree content as users see fit.
According to Facebook, more than 25-million 360 photos and one million 360 degree videos have been posted to Facebook to date.
Facebook 360 marks the latest move in the partnership between Facebook and Samsung.
Facebook 360 is the company’s latest app for Samsung Gear VR, hosting a number of 360 degree videos and other content
In 2015, Facebook-owned Oculus Rift partnered with Samsung to create the Gear VR headset.
And last year February, CEO Mark Zuckerberg made an appearance at Samsung’s Galaxy S7 launch. Zuckerberg discussed the future of virtual reality, and the promise it had for the future.
“It’s going to change the way we live and work and communicate,” he assured.
Facebook 360 is not tied to Samsung’s Gear VR, though, and its announcement makes clear they will be expanding to other VR platforms in the future.
“We look forward to seeing how people use the app to connect with the people and things they care about, and we’ll continue to improve the experience and hope to bring it to more platforms over time,” the announcement reads.
