Facebook wants to stop spreading fake news about vaccines
Facebook has revealed its plans to help stop the spread of fake information about vaccines on its platform.
This comes after the rise of anti-vaxxers, a group determined to stop vaccinating their children, putting them and everyone else at risk of serious disease.
“We are working to tackle vaccine misinformation on Facebook by reducing its distribution and providing people with authoritative information on the topic,” Facebook said on its website.
The company intends to do this by rejecting ads with false information, not showing or recommending pages in News Feed who contribute to the issue, and countering the fake news with facts.
“We are exploring ways to give people more accurate information from expert organizations about vaccines at the top of results for related searches, on Pages discussing the topic, and on invitations to join groups about the topic,” the platform also noted.
According to the post, Facebook is yet to implement these new plans.
