Snapchat finally launches optimised app for Android, but users still aren’t happy

After months of hot air, Snap on Monday finally launched a new version of Snapchat for Android built specifically for better performance on the Google operating system.

The company revealed the news in a tweet.

For years, Android users complained about the dismal quality of Snapchat, which performed better on iOS devices in many ways.

In an interview with CNBC, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel promised a roll out by the end of 2019. It seems, however, that the launch date was brought forward by several months.

According to Snapchat, the reformed app is now available for all active Android users.

“If you use Snapchat regularly on an Android device, chances are that you’re already running the latest version,” the company said.

Though the app was eagerly anticipated by users who wanted better camera quality and app performance, some are already complaining that new Snapchat for Android is still lacking.

“The iOS version is still faster on phones that aren’t even supported anymore, the redesign is missing features, and camera quality is still terrible. Why is this so hard for you?” one Twitter user said.

Perhaps current issues will be addressed in future Android updates? Considering how long the app took to arrive on Android, we’d bet against holding your breath.
