5 of the least plausible iPhone 5 rumours

It’s hours now until the launch of the new iPhone. Since the iPhone 4S, Apple fans have waited with bated breath and have been counting the days until the iPhone 5 launches. Well, it’s happening soon but before then, we need to clear the air. There’s been thousands of iPhone 5 rumours, and some have been so implausible that it’s close to laughable. For you amusment, here are the least likely software and hardware updates planned for the iPhone 5.

NFC

Very slight chance here. While Samsung and Nokia have embraced NFC, Apple hasn’t even bothered to add it to its newer products, like the iPad 3. There are ancient reports claiming that Apple would never place NFC tech in its products, but things change. Things always change. Anyway, likelihood of NFC is 50/50 at this point. There is always this story though which champions NFC for iPhone 5.

A new design

The closest we’re going to get to a completely new design is if we buy a non-Apple phone. The iPhone is going to stay the way it is, but be stretched out to 4-inches. Design rumours include wireless charging and a Galaxy S III-like shape.

iPhone 5 or New iPhone?

Such a bone of contention is the name. But lets follow the pattern shall we? Apples last product, the iPad 3 was simply called “New iPad” or “iPad”. There was no official name and if we follow this rule, the new iPhone will be called “New iPhone”. Boom, done. And don’t even go there with names like iPhone 5.1.

Super-sized Retina Display

Let’s file this under “v” for “very unlikely”. The current PPI or pixels per inch of the iPhone 4/4s is 326PPI. Now, the predicted res of the new screen is 1136×640 so the new PPI has to be at least 400 or more. Cramming this many pixels into a tiny space seems like a pipe dream. Perhaps Apple can pull it off?

Waterproof, hell no

This is the best rumour by far. There’s tech like this that propagates the rumour and there’s stories like this that promised a waterproof design. To be frank, it’ll never happen in a million years but it’s a grand thought.
