PlayStation loves indie game developers, is ‘supportive’ and ‘easy to work with’
Good news, future game devs. Working with PlayStation to publish your PS4 indie games is “awesome” and “great” says IGameResponsibly as well as many developers interviewed by the site at the 2014 Game Developers Conference.
According to the site, which interviewed various developers at this year’s GDC, most of the devs praised Sony for welcoming the indie dev community with open arms. Choice quotes include:
“They’re awesome partners, it’s been great for us. They’ve been working with us on all of our marketing needs. What they’re doing for indie games is huge.” says Raj Joshi, developer of Galak-Z: The Dimensional.
“Since we haven’t published the game yet I can’t speak of all aspects but up until now I would say that it has been very easy to work with Sony, can’t say it has been any big hurdles when getting approved as developer or giving us a go on the concept. On top of that they have also helped us in terms of showing the game at some of their press conferences and such. Which we very much appreciate, being a small 2-man operation.” says the developer of the fourth-dimension puzzler, Pavilion
Earlier this month, Sony announced new tools such as expanded middleware (the Havok Physics engine is an example of middleware) to better facilitate the development of indie games for the PS4. Sony itself said, “We’re an immense supporter of the indie movement within the game industry and is constantly collecting feedback on how to make things easier for developers.” The barriers that recently existed between indie developers and consoles has finally been pulled down by Sony and in a small way, by Microsoft too.
