DRIVECLUB races to PS4 8 October 2014

The excitement factor for DRIVECLUB (yes, it’s an all-caps title) now offically reaches fever pitch with a brand new trailer that not only demos the jaw-dropping graphics, but reveals the launch date as well. From 8 October 2014, PlayStation 4 gamers will get their DRIVECLUB on.

Over on PlayStation.Blog, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida writes:

“We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game. The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DRIVECLUB offers has not been previously achieved in this category and because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for.”

Paul Rustchynsky, previously DRIVECLUB’s design director, has now been promoted to game director, replacing Col Rodgers who left Evolution Studios for family reasons. “His experience when it comes to delivering racing games is impeccable. Previously Game Director on critically acclaimed MotorStorm RC, he has been an integral contributor to all major titles coming out of Evolution Studios since 2004. With Rushy in the lead, we know DRIVECLUB will deliver on its initial promise to be a truly next gen racing title for our PS4 portfolio.” says Yoshida.

Rustchynsky will update PlayStation.Blog tomorrow with new DRIVECLUB information and who knows, hopefully a surprise or two. DRIVECLUB is a PS4 exclusive announced back in February  2013 and besides the graphics, which approach uncanny valley territory (for cars at least), Evolution Studios describes its as a “truly innovative, socially connected racing game” and from the video, it’s plain to see that player identity will be deeply tied to the racing mechanics.

Evolution Studios also says that gameplay is Grid 2 than Gran Tursimo or Forza, as team management will play an integral role in the game.
