Gearburn on Hashtag Radio episode #2: mid-range phones, online security and more Windows 10

Gearburn on Hashtag Radio is a new monthly segment where our editor Andy Walker, Hashtag Radio’s Zaid Kriel and another in-studio guest talk gaming, gadgets and all things tech. This week, TFG Tech Magazine editor Gavin Dudley joins the conversation.

It has been another bumper week in technology, and that’s without even mentioning IFA 2015 coming up next week.

With that as a launch pad, and the recently launched LG G4 Beat as the fuel, we discuss the onslaught of mid-range phones that look to undercut their more expensive flagship siblings.

Which mid-range device should you buy? What defines a mid-range smartphone? What on earth was LG thinking with the hideous “G4 Beat” name? Let’s just say we get fairly deep into an intricate topic.

Ashley Madison and online security also makes an appearance, with those signed up to the dating site having a particularly bad month. We discuss why the tech media has grabbed hold of a topic that isn’t ostensibly tech-focused.

Finally, Windows 10 makes another appearance. The OS has now been installed on over 75-million machines but it remains a highly polarising operating system.

We discuss the good, the bad and the ugly of Microsoft‘s latest OS baby.
