A MAZE gaming festival hits Johannesburg next month
The Johannesburg running of the A MAZE festival has quickly established itself as a top-flight gaming event in South Africa, featuring some of the best indie developers in the country and from abroad.
There’s good news if you missed last year’s running, as this year’s event takes place from 13-16 September. The event will be opening as part of the Fak’ugesi Festival in Founders Square, Tshimologong Precinct, read a press release emailed to Gearburn.
Some of the more notable international speakers at the event include Nina Freeman (Cibele, Tacoma), A MAZE festival director Thorsten Wiedemann, Yoan Fanise (Valiant Hearts, Beyond Good and Evil), Josh Naylor (Unity), Jan Willem Nijman (Vlambeer) and Kitty Calis (Horizon: Zero Dawn).
The A MAZE festival comes to Johannesburg once again, with a stacked lineup of games and speakers in tow
It wouldn’t be a local gaming event without African speakers, but A MAZE has loads as well. Notable names include Richard Pieterse, Hugo Obi, Arnaud Chulu Amina, Evan Greenwood, Ruan Rothmann, Danny Day, Crystal Farmer, Lulamile Mohapi, Ben Rausch, Michelle Matthews and Francois van Niekerk.
As for the gaming selection, expect everything from reflective experiences (ALONE, Courage Dear Heart) and the weird (Genital Jousting: The Story of John, Mosh Pit Simulator) to everything in between (Window Washers, VinylOS, The Orchard, Nidhogg 2).
Tickets start at R40 for a daytime exhibition ticket, ranging to R750 for a full pass (including exhibitions, talks and workshops).
