Samsung’s Messages app is randomly sending pictures to random people
Samsung’s Messaging app is doing some odd things this week.
According to reports on Reddit, the Korean smartphone makers’ phones — namely the S9 and S9+ — are sending pictures from their galleries to random contacts in their address books.
“Last night around 2:30 am, my phone sent her my entire photo gallery over text but there was no record of it on my messages app. However, there was record of it on tmobile logs. Why would this happen?” wrote one Reddit user.
“UM THIS IS DISTURBING” was the top comment.
But what’s the reason? And are we affected in South Africa?
As far as the latter question goes, it seems unlikely. But if you’re in the United States and on T-Mobile, you could have a picture of your junk sent to your mom without your knowledge.
It’s not completely clear what the issue is either, but guesses suggest that a recent update enabling RCS compatibility may have birthed the bug.
RCS is effectively SMS’s successor.
Samsung is aware of the issue, but it’s not clear when it will be resolved.
