Mobicel Trendy 2 debuts in South Africa for R899
Local smartphone firm Mobicel on Tuesday announced a new “affordable LTE-enabled smartphone” called the Trendy 2.
The successor of the Trendy now sports Android Go, Google’s lightweight OS for smaller, cheaper devices based on Pie, a 5.45-inch display with a 960×480 resolution, a 2MP front camera, a 5MP rear camera and 8GB of internal storage.
There’s a microSD card slot too if that’s not enough storage, but the Trendy 2 only has room for a single SIM card. The phone’s powered by a Mediatek MT6739WA chipset, while a 2500mAh battery keeps the device going.
The company’s pricing this thing aggressively too. R899 will nab you one of these, and it comes in cheaper than some of the other Android Go phones on the market, namely the Nokia 1 (R999), Samsung Galaxy A2 Core (R1299), and the Huawei Y3 2018 (R999).
Tough market.
The phone will go on sale on Mobicel’s own site (it’s not listed yet, though), and “major retailers” across South Africa.
