All Huawei phones released after 2016 will get Android Pie, EMUI 9 update
Huawei on Thursday announced that all of its smartphones released after 2016 will receive the EMUI 9 update, based on Android 9 Pie.
This includes budget devices like the 2018 Huawei P Smart and P20 Lite, which will receive the EMUI 9 update by the end of June. The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will receive the update in July, the company added.
The news includes Honor smartphones too, so this includes the Honor 8X which launched in November 2018 with EMUI 8.1.
To check if your phone is ready for a software upgrade, head to settings and search for “Software Update”. Users can also visit a Huawei service centre in Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban if updating your own software isn’t something that appeals to you.
The company noted that it will announce the EMUI 9 availability dates for its other devices “soon”.
