Meet the Nokia C1: a new entry-level Android Go phone for Africa
HMG Global on Wednesday announced yet another budget Android Go smartphone in the form of the Nokia C1.
The phone is chiefly for emerging markets, so don’t expect trailblazing specs.
It sports a 5.45-inch 960×480 IPS display, a 5MP selfie camera and a 5MP rear camera.
Internally, it’s using a 1.3GHz quad core chipset, although HMD Global isn’t providing details beyond that.
Millions of consumers across markets in Africa, Middle East and APAC will upgrade from a feature phone to their first smartphone. Nokia C1 is a smartphone they can trust – bringing quality experiences at an affordable price with 3G connectivity #nokiamobile pic.twitter.com/QibUYWxRTn

1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage also feature alongside it. There’s room for a microSD card too, up to 64GB in fact.
Unfortunately, there’s no LTE support, but the phone play nice with 3G networks. There’s also a headphone jack, FM radio and GPS, with Bluetooth 4.2 LE support, and WiFi 802.11 n support too.
All this is powered by a 2500mAh battery, and the device will run Android Go.
The Nokia C1 will launch in the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region, but a price hasn’t been confirmed for a number of regions just yet.
For Kenyans, you can look forward to a device that won’t cost for than $60.
The phone will join the likes of the budget Nokia 1 in the Android Go programme.
