Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 draw design inspiration from the Lumia 950 XL
HMD Global today announced the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2 at IFA 2019 in Berlin, Germany.
The upper mid-range devices are aesthetically similar, but do feature a few differences.
The Nokia 7.2 for instance features three cameras in a circular camera array above a physical fingerprint reader.
Nokia’s the first phone brand to seemingly adopt a rounded camera array — perhaps reliving the Lumia 950 XL days — likely kicking off a trend.
Those cameras feature a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP wide-angle camera, and a 5MP depth sensor.
Up front, there’s a 20MP snapper housed within a notch above the 6.3 inch display. That display also supports HDR 10, too.
Behind its skin, the Nokia 7.2 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, a maximum of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There’s also a 4GB/64GB lower end model, and you can buff this figure with a microSD card, or use it as a second SIM slot.
And powering this is a 3500mAh battery.
Other niceties include a 3.5 mm headphone jack, USB-C port for charging and data, and base a price of €299 for the lower-end model and €349 for the larger RAM/storage combo. It will come in Cyan Green Charcoal and Ice colour variants, and will go on sale at the end of the month.
No worth on an SA launch date, but all in all, not a bad deal.
The Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2 are practically the same in looks, different in muscle
The Nokia 6.2 is much of the same, but it does swap the 48MP sensor at the rear for an 16MP. It keeps the 8MP and 5MP sensors at the back.
The front camera has also been nerfed. You’re looking at an 8MP snapper instead of a 20MP.
Beneath its skin, HMD Global’s gone for a slightly less powerful Snapdragon 636 with a base storage figure of 32GB, and 3GB of RAM. There’s also a 4GB/64GB version too, and the phone also sports a 3500mAh battery, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and USB-C.
It’ll retail from €199 for the cheapest version, and €249 for the larger storage/RAM combo. It’ll be available in Ceramic Black and Ice from October. There’s no word on a South African launch date just yet.
Both phones will run Android 9 Pie, but we have to imagine Android 10 isn’t too far away.
