ZENS aims to turn your cup holder into a wireless charger
Check this out. The ability to wirelessly charge a device in your car is something that’ll most likely start making its way as a standard feature into cars in the near future. Now though, it seems that there’s hope for those of us who love our tech but are unlikely to be able to splash out on a new car in the next few years.
Dutch company Zens is looking to bring wireless charging to the car with an attachment designed to fit in your cup holder. Powered by your car’s cigarette lighter, Zens claims that it Qi Wireless Car Charger can provide juice to any smartphone (with a screen size of up to five inches).
Currently, the company says, there are already over 400 products that are Qi-certified, including GoogleNexus 4/5/7, Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia 920, LG Optimus G Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5 and Note 3 (with optional Qi receiving case).
One advantage Zens has with this device is that it can draw on the knowledge it already has from three years in the wireless charging game. We do however hope that it also provides an elegant solution for connecting the charger to your cigarette lighter (especially if it’s on your dashboard), because dealing with a cable wrangling around your gearstick can be a serious pain and seriously dangerous.
Now, if only we could afford a car with a cup holder…
